Caving in Doolin

Hi

On the grounds that the weather can't possibly be as bad as last year, we are going back to Doolin for another go at caving there. From Thursday 27 August to Saturday 5th of September - or any dates inbetween.

Pre-Dinner Caving cont.

Grovel says,

> We intend going caving, or at least going through the
> motions, that is:-
> Getting to Bernie's at around 10 to 10:30.
> Eating breakfast.
> Reading the papers...

???

Sigh! What happened to my proposed plan to get to the Dales early (possibly
even the night before) and doing a PROPER trip Manchester Bypass / Mancunion
way? Plenty of room for all there :-)

OK, OK, I guess some might struggle with all that crawling nowdays. So I
guess I'll meet you in Bernies as suggested for an early afternoon start.
Possible options:
Something jolly in Kingsdale (Swinsto pull through, Heron Pot).
Easegill classic through trip (Lancaster - County via Manchester Bypass
perhaps - I could rig County during the week for you)
Interesting tours of Easegill (County Pot, Trident, Wretched Rabbit, New
Spiral Stairs route)
Link Pot (guided tour of interesting corners, I might even leave the
surveying kit at home!)

The sooner you're up and breakfasted the sooner you can get the squalid
caving over and the sooner you'll be back to start the heavy drinking
session before the meal.

Anyone in the Dales on Friday night is welcome to come drinking in Settle
and stop at our house to get a flying start on Saturday morning.

Sam.

Pre-Dinner Caving

Bad news

We intend going caving, or at least going through the motions, that is:-

Getting to Bernie’s at around 10 to 10:30.
Eating breakfast.
Reading the papers.
Looking at the nice new shiny equipment in Inglesport’s window.
Checking whether there is a football match on the telly.

Then someone will spoil it all by asking “When are we going caving?”

Current plans are . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . get to the Golden Lion

If anyone has any burning desires tell us.

Options considered have been:
One of MUSS’s great finds – we coundn’t think of any that fit this bill.
Big Meanie – vetoed
Snools / Snorkel Hole – it has rained within the last year.

Anyway, with the numbers wanting to go caving we would not all simultaneously fit into most of our finds!

Yours, ever caving (occasionally)

Imminent caving trips

Hi everyone

GET YOUR EXCUSES PREPARED

The dynamic duo (well the two pissed up old farts that make wild outrageous claims late on Friday nights) have decided to do some trips in May.

12th May it has been suggested that we do Stream Passage (Sam's expertise required!) or even a Diccan/Alumn exchange (need to sort out enough gear for this so may not be as advertised!). Anybody interested?

19th May Would Mr Robinson (plus Gerry etc) like to come down Cherry Tree Hole. It is a nice little hole to practice route finding in (as Steve and I know having been there on Saturday). All welcome.

Caving for Children

Well,

I'm going to start the bidding with a gentle trip down Calf Holes,
with Clare and Jacob (5) and Ethan (3).

If anyone wants to join us, they'll be more than welcome.

Grovel - can I borrow a ladder and lifeline please. Although we PROBABLY wont be climbing the pitch, I want a quick exit rigged at that end just in case :-//

See you on the 18th.

Yet more caving - 2 September

Hard luck!

Those who thought they had got out of caving by having a good excuse for not going on the 26th August can go on the 2nd of September instead!

At the aforementioned barbeque John Bown thought he had got out of caving by having a prior engagement on the 26th, so we agreed to repeat the adventure all over again a week later!

Same idea, namely a Lancaster to Retched Rabbit/County Pot trip but how about having a big enough turn out to make it an exchange trip! All comers gladly welcome.

Definite arrangements as before: meet at Bernies at 10:30ish; go caving; go home.

If you are interested keep in touch.

CAVING TRIP 26th August

Yes folks

At some time during a drunken barbeque thrown for Andy’s birthday some cunning sole tricked a number of us in to going caving!

Plan is to assist Steve Bell on a Lancaster to Retched Rabbit/County Pot trip as he has NEVER done a through trip! Yes hard to believe but this is the truth (so he tells me).

Definite arrangements not yet clarified, only the general: meet at Bernies at 10:30ish; go caving; go home.

If you are interested keep in touch.

More Caving Trips

It is the Annual dinner of MUSS this weekend.

MUSS used to stand for Manchester University Speleological Society so we really ought to go underground - that's caving not the transport system in London!

I have had a suggestion of Stream Passage by some not very young, nor keen, but especially foolish person. I understand that Dave Salamen and John Bown are forming a hard core of members planning to go down Long Churn. (When I say hard core I mean they are forming the core, not that they are hard!)

Any suggestions? Meeting times? Etc

Don't let MUSS mean Mainly Useless, Senior and Senile

Caving Trip

Dave Salerman and John Bown are rumoured to be caving before the dinner - so anyone fancying going underground contact one of them.
